CoNGO Civil society media desk

One block from the United Nations, civil society organizations are advocating for the world's future, and struggling to be heard. They have the stories, the expertise, and the moral standing. What they lack is the media infrastructure to make their message seen, heard and remembered.

Hubcast Media is a UEN partner. It operates the Civil Society Media Desk, a shared media, storytelling, and production hub for NGOs. The Desk provides studio space, livestreams, podcasting, and broadcast-grade production at rates built for NGOs.

The Ask: The UN-donated home for the Media Desk needs structural upgrading in its halls, studios and meeting rooms

. When completed, the Media Desk will expand its staffing, production capacities and distribution partnerships, thereby better serving the many NGOs who interact with the UN’s General Assembly.

The Model:

1.   Operate — a physical media production hub at the doorstep of the United Nations: studio space, livestreaming, podcasting, broadcast-grade production

2.   Serve — civil society organizations with media packages built for NGO budgets; bookable coverage of their venue and the greater enriched capacity to broadcast back to their countries what they discussed in their offices.

3.   Amplify — the voices of the organizations shaping global policy, giving their stories the production quality and reach they've never been able to afford

4.   Extend — the model outward: media desks in other UN hubs, and a network that turns thousands of isolated NGO messages into a coherent civil society chorus

Why This, Why Now: Civil society does the world's caring — on climate, peace, hunger, rights. But caring without cameras is invisible. As traditional media coverage of the UN and global civil society shrinks, the organizations closest to the world's problems are losing the ability to reach the public — and the public is losing its window into the institutions that shape global policy.

The Return: Every NGO that produces at the Desk becomes a multiplier — its stories reach audiences, its message enters the policy bloodstream, and its media capacity compounds long after the event ends. A fully scaled Desk becomes permanent infrastructure: not one broadcast, but a factory for thousands.

Funding enables: Expanded production capacity and staff at the New York hub; subsidized NGO media packages; distribution partnerships; and the blueprint for replicating the model worldwide.
